In the Forest (2018)
Each path tells a story. Tangle’s acrobats and 360-degree sculptural set surround you in In the Forest, an immersive circus-theater show where threads guide travelers into new worlds. Choose your view and explore a landscape of light and shade, trapeze and aerial silks, and twisting tales for an experience that changes at each turn. In the Forest premiered at the Rotunda in West Philadelphia as part of the 2018 Philadelphia Fringe Festival.
Threads guide travelers while guardians build paths. Whispers gather in secret corners. A scientist unspools her hypothesis, and weaves a thesis out of fabric, yarn, and stolen treasures. With In the Forest, Philadelphia’s innovative aerial storytellers mix trapeze, aerial silks, and an expansive sculptural set for an unforgettable experience. In the Forest is a world of movement and sculpture, in which the audience may wander freely and choose which pathway to follow.
Steven Weisz of the Philadelphia Dance Journal wrote, “A rich, multi-layered and textured performance… [In the Forest] was literally a feast for the senses with beautifully choreographed movement, a carefully woven story, aerial dance and acrobatics, six different sets all running simultaneously, and thousands of yards of fabric and yarn to captivate an audience.”
For the creation of In the Forest, Tangle received state arts funding support through a grant from The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
